Accra offers a vast array of things to see and do. Make sure you check out Jamestown, it’s Accra’s old town and is still a thriving fishing centre. It’s not an obvious place to go, but you will get a feel of the real Accra here. It’s also worth stopping by Osu Castle, which was built in 1659.
If you want to do a bit of shopping while you are in Accra, head to Accra mall where there is a huge food court and a movie theatre. For a more authentic shopping experience, spend some time at Makola Market, you can buy all sorts of things here. It’s very manic and crammed with people, but an interesting experience nonetheless. For some of the best restaurants and bars in the city, as well as some upmarket shops, head to Oxford Street in Osu.
Accra is also fairly close to a selection of sandy beaches. Some of the most popular beaches include Labadi Beach, Bojo Beach Resort and Kokrobite Beach. The beaches are a great way to escape the busy city for a day. Another great place to relax for a few hours is Aburi Botanical Gardens.
Another big attraction in Accra is the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum is a memorial park dedicated to Ghana’s first president. There’s a museum based around the president’s life and five acres of land to wander around.
