Bangalore's most important and oldest festival Karaga Shaktyotsava or Bengalooru Karaga is celebrated on the first moon day of the Hindu new year, usually around April, and sees people of all religions joining together for festivities including a huge procession. Meanwhile the Autumn ‘Festival of Lights’ Deeavali also transcends demographic and religious lines to be celebrated with great vigour. Other local festivals of importance include Dasara, which dates back to the old Kingdom of Mysore and the city also celebrates other key Indian festivals such as Ganesh Chaturthi, Ugadi, Sankranthi, Diwali & Eid ul-Fitr.
