Perth International Arts Festival, which takes place every year in February or March, sees the city awash with drama, theatre, music, film, visual arts, street arts, literature, comedy and free community events. The Western Australian Indigenous Arts Showcase (WAIAS), the Contemporary Culture program and the Perth Visual Arts Festival all form part of this huge event.

Film fans may enjoy July’s Revelation Perth International Film Festival. With a strong emphasis on documentary and progressive works it’s a good place to see a mixture of local and international pieces.

Meanwhile, Australia Day is also a great time to visit, with Perth’s celebrations including a huge fireworks display over the Swan River.
