Traces of Indonesia’s long colonial history are everywhere in Jakarta and as Indonesia’s economic and political capital, it attracts plenty of domestic immigrants, as well as expats from around the world.

These days many of the Betawi people (the descendants of those who lived in Batavia, colonial Jakarta), have moved to the suburbs, but their cultures and traditions are still honoured in the Jalan Jaksa and Kemang festivals.
